BEAUTY DANCES INTO ROMANCE”

CHICAGO DAILY TRIBUNE

Friday, June 4, 1920

Pretty 20 year old Helene Schatz, daughter of Judge Willam Schatz of Evanston [Illinois] has danced her way into the heart of Henry E. Sanders.

It became known in Evanston yesterday that the girl, who is a member of the Chicago Grand Opera Company and formerly was with Andreas Pavley, had gone to Gladstone, Michigan, and had been married there to Henry E. Sanders, who was her dancing partner for several months.

“We were surprised to learn of the marriage,” Mrs. Schatz said last night. “We should have given her a nice wedding here in Evanston. But then, love will have its way, and Judge Schatz and I have wired our blessing to Helene and her husband.”

The young woman is a former pupil of the Van Vlissingen school. She frequently had asserted that she never would be married, because she had a career to carve out, but yesterday she wrote to her mother that she will “dance better with Henry as her life partner.”

Mrs. Sanders, who was born and reared in Evanston, has danced her way through life. Even as a little child she showed talent as a dancer and took part in many entertainments. This continued through her grammar and high school career. Then she enrolled at the Van Vlisssingen school, and the next step was the opera company, where she was known as Helene Beth.
